Passenger seriously injured after driver ploughs into tree

A passenger was seriously injured after a driver ploughed into a tree in Timperley.

The driver lost control on a bend and went onto the other side of the road before crashing on Tuesday night.

The smash happened on Sinderland Lane at around 9pm.

A male passenger, aged 18, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A further two male passengers, aged 18 and 19, and the male driver, aged 18, went to hospital with minor injuries. They have since been released.

A man, aged 18, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody for questioning.

Photos from the scene showed a police van blocking the country lane in the aftermath of the crash.

An investigation has been launched. Police are appealing for information.

Constable John Durham of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Thankfully the occupant of the vehicle who remains in hospital is responding well to treatment and we wish him well with his recovery.

“Officers are piecing together the details of what happened in the moments before the collision took place.

“Were you in the area at the time or do you have information or dash-cam footage that may assist our enquiries?

“If so, please get in touch as soon as possible.”
