Passenger said she would 'rip off train manager's head' when asked for ticket

A passenger became abusive and said she would rip off a train manager's head when he asked her for her ticket, a court heard.

Joanne Peebels was travelling on a train from Skegness to Nottingham Railway Sation on October 23 last year, Nottingham Magistrates' Court was told on Friday (June 4).

But, when asked for her ticket, she made the threat and added it was "lucky her boyfriend wasn't there", explained Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting over a link to the courtroom.

"She apologised afterwards," he told magistrates. "She was smoking in the toilet on numerous occasions. They took hold of her at Nottingham Train Station. She refused to be interviewed".

Peebels told the court: "He (the train manager) didn't speak to me politely. I did have a little bit of wine. I apologise. I'm just guilty on everything".

Mr Jerath said the complainant did not feel the defendant would carry out any threats and he felt the defendant's apology was insincere.

Peebels, 36, of Park Road, Bedworth, pleaded guilty to three offences; using threatening behaviour, boarding a train without a ticket, and smoking on the railway.

Of the smoking offence, she said: "I have no recollection of that. I did have some wine, so guilty".

Of the no ticket offence, she said: "I fell asleep with a ticket and woke up without a ticket".

She was ordered to pay £100 compensation to the train manager for the threatening behaviour and no separate penalty was imposed on the two other offences. She must pay costs of £85.
