Passenger plunges off platform onto train tracks while staring at his phone

A man plunged onto a railway track while staring at his phone - and narrowly escaped death.

The 49-year-old, whose name has not been disclosed,  fell onto the line at a station in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

CCTV footage shows the man, who dressed in a jacket and blue jeans, ambling along the empty platform while carrying a backpack.

However, with his eyes glued to the phone, he walks further down the platform without noticing he is approaching the edge and eventually falls onto the track.

Luckily he is saved by another commuter who rushed to drag him back to safety.

Local reports said the man was wearing an orthopaedic brace at the time of the incident.

He was attended by paramedics later and send to a local hospital for a detailed checkup.

Last month, a woman was accidentally pushed onto the tracks by a man who fainted at the Pueyrredon station at the Argentine capital city.

Concerned passengers rushed to rescue the woman before a train entered the station.

The train operator was able to hit on the breaks in time to avoid fatal crashes.
