Passenger on Ryanair flight from Dublin Airport to Tenerife arrested after 'attacking four police'

A man on a Ryanair flight from Dublin to Tenerife has been arrested following an altercation with Civil Guard officers after landing.

It is alleged that the "disruptive" passenger attacked four police officer after being told to wear a mask.

The man is understood to be Irish, the Mirror UK reports.

All four were said to have been injured and two had to take medical leave.

The alleged incident happened at Tenerife's south airport on Thursday.

"The events were triggered when the man disembarked with obvious symptoms of intoxication, being interviewed by four Civil Guards on the platform of the runway," says Spanish newspaper Diario de Avisos.

The passenger reportedly confronted the agents, refused to put on a mask and wanted to smoke in the compound, both of which are expressly prohibited by the new measures against the coronavirus pandemic.

The Civil Guard proceeded to transfer him for identification and the man, without a word, began to punch and kick the agents, it is claimed.

"Four officers were injured and two of them remain on medical leave."

A spokesman for Ryanair confirmed: "This disruptive passenger was removed from a Ryanair aircraft in Tenerife on Thursday, September 3rd.

"He became further disruptive with the Guardia Civil and was placed under arrest by them. As this is now a police matter we cannot comment further."

Yesterday, in a separate incident, a holiday flight from Scotland to Tenerife was involved in a mid-air drama due to "a group of conflicting passengers on board".

Full details have yet to emerge but Spanish police were also called in and reportedly boarded the plane at the island's south airport.

It is understood to have been Ryanair flight FR6621 which had taken off from Edinburgh.

Air traffic controllers tweeted: "Flight from Edinburgh arriving in Tenerife South, requests police presence upon arrival by a group of conflicting passengers on board. The route is shortened as much as possible and the police presence is coordinated. #SafetyFirst."
