Passenger of drug-filled speeding car tries to escape from police in Aldi car park

A passenger of speeding, drug-filled car tried to escape from police by running through Aldi car park.

Police first spotted the car driving at speed along Oldham Road in Ashton-under-Lyne last night (Wednesday).

Officers stopped the car, but the occupants made off.

One passenger left his ID behind in his 'drug bag', police said, before officers found him running across Aldi car park trying to escape.

He was arrested and the car, which had been cloned, was seized.

Officers found bags of class A and class B drugs inside the car.

GMP Tameside posted a picture on Facebook showing the items found including the drugs and two small phones.

Alongside the picture, an officer wrote: "B relief #TransportUnit Officers have recovered a quantity of Class A and Class B drugs, following a vehicle stop tonight in Ashton.

"The vehicle was seen driving at speed on Oldham Road and the occupants made off but the passenger left his ID documents behind in his drug bag.

"He wasn't AWOL for long as no sooner had the vehicle been recovered, patrols found him running across Aldi car park trying to escape for a second time.

"Unfortunately he wasn't quite so lucky in his second attempt.

"1 in custody, 1 cloned vehicle recovered, and a quantity of class A and class B drugs off the streets!"
