Passenger numbers hit almost 3 million as Dublin Airport celebrates busiest April ever

Dublin Airport celebrated a record-breaking month in April as passenger numbers increased to 2.8 million.

The 7% increase made it the busiest April in the airport's 79-year history.

Passenger volumes to and from Continental Europe increased by 9%, with almost 1.5 million passengers travelling on flights to and from continental Europe in April. 

UK traffic increased by 2%, as almost 877,000 passengers travelled to and from the UK last month.

Transatlantic passenger volumes grew by 16%, with almost 344,000 passengers travelling to and from North America in April. 

Other international traffic, mainly to the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific region grew by 2% with just over 80,500 passengers travelling to and from these destinations in April.

Domestic traffic declined by 3% with more than 8,000 passengers travelling on domestic routes in April.

The number of passengers using Dublin Airport as a hub to connect to another destination increased by 9% with more than 171,000 passengers connecting through Dublin Airport last month.

More than 9.3 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport in the first four months of this year, a 7% increase over the same period last year.

The airport has welcomed more than 650,000 additional passengers in the first four months of 2019.
