Passenger livid at 'rude' woman who covered plane seat with plastic sheet

A passenger has been strongly criticised for covering the seat behind them on a plane with a large black plastic bag.

The flyer was called "rude" and "inconsiderate" after a fellow passenger posted a photo of their unusual aviation etiquette online.

They had placed a large black seat cover which looks similar to a bin bag over her seat, hooking it on the top.

In doing so they covered about half of the in-flight entertainment system of the person sat behind them.

Blocking the TV caused the flier to face some fierce criticism from commenters on Reddit, where the photo was posted.

Seemingly in agreement with the poster's frustration, one user suggested they "flip it back over the lady’s head".

A different person said: "Blows my mind how someone can do that, while realizing they have a tv/touchscreen in front of them and not think about the tv that’s on the back of their own seat."

Some people simply couldn't understand why the person who took the photo had not just asked them to move the cover.

"I mean … just take it off?" one person advised.

Another said: "People don't have perfect situational awareness all the time. You can deal with this by having one tiny moment of social interaction with another human being, or you can become infuriated and post about it on the internet while doing nothing to solve the easily solved problem."

Others empathised with the original poster, recalling similar experiences they had suffered through at several thousand feet.

"Around 2005 I had a similar scenario. Asked the person politely if they minded removing their hair from covering the screen," one person wrote. I was ignored and the seat got fully reclined.

"The solution was speaking to the flight attendant. She went and spoke to the senior attendant who then dealt with the issue. Not long after, same issue again.

"I was bumped up to business class."

While the motivations of the seat coverer are not completely clear, it is fair to assume they wanted to avoid having to sit on a potentially dirty chair where many others had previously sat.

One flight attendant recently revealed the surfaces to avoid touching during flights, and not just the plane's toilet seat.

Cabin crew member Tommy warned passengers to stay wary when relaxing in their seats, including avoiding leaning on the plane windows.

While it may be the obvious place to try and grab some shuteye, you don't know how many people have done this before you.

There's even a chance a small child - or adult - has wiped their dirty hands all over it, or drooled all over the wall while away in the land of nod.

Leaning back is probably a better option for those looking for a more sanitary, less germ-filled sleep experience.
