A man died after a sports car crashed into a tree Friday in north suburban Gurnee.
A 41-year-old Waukegan man was driving a 2001 Jaguar X about 1:30 a.m. when he lost control on Route 41 and went off the road just north of Kilbourne Road in unincorporated Gurnee, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office.
The car hit at least one tree before coming to a stop, the sheriff’s office said. The front-seat passenger, a 28-year-old Beach Park man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lake County coroner’s office is expected to perform an autopsy on Monday,
The driver was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigation Team is working to determine whether speed or intoxicating substances were factors in the crash.
