Age: 24.

Appearance: Sassy, sexy yoof TV and radio presenter. Oh, and the next Zoe Ball, apparently.

Ranks high in the originality stakes, then. What makes her so special? The bolshie Bolton lass has pipped Chris Moyles, Jamie Theakston and Jo Whiley to Radio 1's most prestigious spot. She's set to take over from the newlywed Ball as presenter of the station's high-profile breakfast show in April.

Presumably she's currently cutting her teeth elsewhere in music radio in preparation for the task ahead. Er, no. She has a slot on Channel 4's Big Breakfast, which the BBC seems to view as a sort of vocational training scheme for the breakfast show, having plucked both Ball and Chris Evans before her from the BB sofas. Before that, Sara did a stint on the ill-fated Girlie Show. But we're not going to mention that.

Is she up to the job? It is a hard act to follow: Ball brought listening figures up to 6.9m as part of the "girlification" of the station. But she'll have plenty of moral support: she's soon to marry Prodigy dancer Leeroy Thornhill. "He thought it was brilliant. He has even bought a radio now that I'm on it," a lovestruck Cox reports.

Let's get this straight. A hectic TV presenter-turned-radio show host is set to marry a dance music star? Haven't I heard this one somewhere before? There are one or two similarities between Sara and Zoe, you're right. But then the two are the best of friends.

I see - so that's how you get a job in the BBC these days. No need to be sarky. Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt says the friendship had no impact on the decision. "Sara was our unanimous and first choice for the job," he said. "Zoe and I have talked about it on and off since she announced she was taking a break. She is a friend of Sara's, but Sara was chosen because she was the best person for the job." Got that?

Not to be confused with: Carl Cox, Sam Fox, an apple.

Don't say: "I think one of the other presenters tipped for the job would have been Moyles better."
