Pasadena police end chase that circled through L.A. County for nearly 3 hours

Oct. 26--A man wanted by authorities led California Highway Patrol officers on a chase Sunday that wound through Los Angeles County, hitting speeds exceeding 80 mph as he switched freeways to elude capture.

The pursuit began in Pasadena after officers tried to stop a black Honda Accord, whose driver is wanted on suspicion of criminal threats, authorities said. The CHP joined the chase shortly after 5 p.m., near Interstate 210 in Altadena, said CHP Officer Michele Bond.

The driver fled and took a route that circled through L.A. County, darting from the southbound 110 to the westbound 10 freeways, then turning onto the northbound 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass -- all while television helicopters documented his movements.

He returned to the La Canada Flintridge area and took the 134 Freeway, then hopped onto the 210 and 605 freeways, officials said. As the chase neared the end of the second hour, the driver was back on the eastbound 10 Freeway.

About 7:30 p.m., the driver returned to residential streets in Pasadena as police and the CHP trailed him. Pasadena police canceled the pursuit about 7:45 p.m., Lt. Jason Clawson said.

He offered no additional details about the chase.

Bond said CHP investigators believe the driver had no passengers.
