Partygoers branded 'covidiots' as crowds of people dance and drink at Bristol Harbourside

Groups of young people have been branded ‘Covidiots’ after being filmed and photographed partying in a large group in Bristol.

The large group of young people were captured on camera dancing and drinking at Bristol Harbourside last night by Ian Hamilton.

Mr Hamilton shared the footage on Twitter, entitling it ‘Bristol harbourside #covidiots last night.’

Groups of young people - seemingly flouting social distancing guidelines - were seen at different locations around the harbourside including outside the Arnolfini and the Thekla.

This is the first weekend pubs in the city centre now have to close by 10pm as part of new Government regulations to stop the spread of coronavirus.

A large group of young people were also reported to be playing loud music at Castle Park last night, but dispersed when police arrived.

There has been an increase in the numbers of cases of coronavirus among young people in recent weeks.

And there are mounting concerns that although the illness may be mild for them, they could transmit it to elderly or more vulnerable people in their family.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bristol continues to rise.

There were 88 new cases recorded in the city in the week ending September 22, an increase of 72 per cent from 51 in the previous week.

This weekend thousands of young people are heading to Bristol in preparation for the new university term.

Anyone found breaching current covid regulations faces being issued with a fine.
