Party's over for the Rangers rule breaking crew but points deduction demands are a non-starter – Hotline

The Ibrox Covid Five have been sent to the naughty step by Steven Gerrard but some Rangers fans reckon they should be banished from the club for good.

The Premiership pace setters are braced for an SFA bashing while other punters think young players these days need a bit of tough tough to keep them in check.

Dr Robert S. Pender, London, said: “It was stupid and immature to break the rules on Covid laid down by the club and the SFA. Maybe it is time for clubs to be more in charge of players away from clubs.

“No more flash pads, and bring back digs and an old-fashioned mother landlady, lower basic salary with good behaviour bonus every 12 months.”

Colin Hall, Carrickfergus, said: “ Steven Gerrard was correct in naming and indeed shaming those who broke Covid rules at the weekend.

“These are young men who were given an excellent opportunity in life.

“They have shown no respect to their families, Gerrard or Rangers. We have one hand on the Premiership trophy and going well in the Europa League, this could have been jeopardised by their stupidity.

"Show them the door and and tell them never to return.”

Henry McCoy emailed: “This is a disgrace, Rangers should get rid of these players as they definitely aren’t bothering about what Rangers are trying to win here.

“We don’t need this, or them, at this club.”

But Robert Robertson, Barnsley, said: “Why the talk of a points deduction? The clubs involved in all these cases are not responsible for the choices any individual makes once they leave the confines of their respective clubs.

Celtic weren’t responsible for Bolingoli, Aberdeen weren’t responsible for the eight and Rangers aren’t responsible for these morons who committed the latest act of stupidity.”

While Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, said: “No red cards on the field. No red card from the Government since that threat in August.

“Now Rangers players are involved in another illegal incident. The Government is quick enough to jump on other clubs but the silence is deafening this time.”

Celtic have won five on the spin but it’s too little, too late for the supporters.

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Whoever thought it was a good idea to waste £5m on Albian Ajeti needs kicked out the club as far as possible. He still doesn’t look fit, his body language is terrible and milk turns quicker than him.

“Tony Cascarino was a better signing than him.”

Colin McArdle, Lanarkshire, said: “The fact Lennon has signed Liam Shaw for next season means his and John Kennedy’s positions are safe. The stadium has been empty due to Covid and next season it will remain empty and the board of directors will be held responsible by the massive, loyal Celtic support worldwide of failing the club.”

But John Kerr, Airdrie, said: “Celtic in financial trouble and their house of cards collapsing? Did these Rangers fans not read the financial report? Celtic have almost £20 million in the bank. They’re still relying on monthly loans from their sugar daddies.”
