Party poo-pers: Junior team compares Ayrshire rivals to drunk New Year reveller after defeat

A Scots football team compared a rival side to a drunken Hogmanay reveller after kicking off the New Year with a heavy defeat.

Junior outfit Maryhill FC made the light hearted quip in a Facebook post hours after they suffered a 6-2 league defeat at the hands of Ardrossan Winton Rovers.

Summarising the match, the hilarious post read: "You know those kind of first footers that turn up, drink your carryout and leave a jobby in your microwave?"

Well, that 's pretty much what Ardrossan did to us on the park today."

Maryhill are struggling in the bottom half of the West Region League One and recently appointed a new manager in the shape of former Kello and Irvine Meadow boss Ross Wilson.

Ardrossan, managed by former Irvine Vics gaffer Stevie Wilson are among the favourites for promotion and currently sit fifth in the table, just three points of the top.
