'Party fever video' as Lord Mayor slams street gathering in Dublin over weekend

The Lord Mayor of Dublin has heavily criticised what he described as a "party fever" that gripped the capital over the weekend.

In a video on the main Lord Mayor of Dublin Twitter page on Sunday, Fianna Fáil's Tom Brabazon warned that some people still aren't taking the quarantine measures seriously.

Councillor Brabazon said he was horrified at what he witnessed on a particular Dublin street and fears for the safety of the elderly neighbours there.

The Lord Mayor did not specify what street the mass gathering took place on but added that he was very familiar with it and knew many of the residents there.

He said: "I was very concerned to witness a gathering in a street [Saturday] night with no social distancing.

"It is so important that we continue to observe the current restrictions and flatten the curve. We must stay apart to stay together.

"I don't know whether it's the good weather or what it is but there was party fever about [Saturday] night."

He added: "On this particular street, I know a lot of people and some of them would be in the 70+ age group and some of them would be friends of mine.

"They'd be treasured friends and I really value their friendship.

"I just felt that people were taking the lives of those friends with a pinch of salt."
