The government has announced that donations to political parties are now tax deductible, in what it says is a bid to encourage people to support the role of political parties in a democracy.
The Revenue Department amended the Revenue Code to enable income earners who make contributions to political parties to claim tax deductions of up to 10,000 baht, and juristic entities up to 50,000 baht, said government spokesman Buddhipongse Punnakanta after the cabinet meeting on Monday.
At present, the tax-collection agency also allows taxpayers to donate income tax refunds to political parties.
