Party animals come out only at night

Accomplished Thai choreographer Jitti Chompee and his 18 Monkeys Dance Theatre present a contemporary dance performance to raise funds for Neilson Hays Library, where the show will be staged Nov 16-19 at 7.30pm.

Entitled Party Animal, the new dance piece is inspired by the legendary nightclub Berghain, Berlin's ultimate destination for electronic music and hedonism. Jitti explores an underground world filled with mysterious beings and all kinds of sexual pleasure.

In this playground where anything and everything is possible, humans become animals, releasing their innermost primal desires to remain in a perpetual state of euphoria and excitement. Without any authority to dictate normality, male and female mingle as they wish in a chaotic orgy of pleasure, enhanced by foreign substances, living out the utmost raw, sensual experiences.

The performance portrays how bodies are stimulated in all imaginable ways through an organic and raw dance composition tinted by Jitti's shocking, crazy and humorous personal style. With Party Animal, Jitti also continues to redefine the role of space in contemporary dance.

International artists will join the dance troupe on stage as part of this enthralling production.

Tickets cost 3,000 baht for the charity night, organised by the library on Nov 16 to raise funds to cover its educational and cultural activities, as well as the building's maintenance costs for 2019. Tickets for the other shows cost 1,000 baht (400 baht for students).

Neilson Hays Library is on Surawong Road. It reopened this year after the renovation of its historic 96-year-old building.
