Parts of Newport left without electricity after power cut

Parts of Newport have been left without electricity following a power cut in the city.

Properties across the city centre were left without electricity on Wednesday afternoon and were told by Western Power Distribution (WPD) that this was due to a power cut in the NP20 and NP19 postcode areas.

The supplier informed those affected that it is aiming to have the electricity supply return by 2pm in the afternoon and apologised to people affected by the loss of supply.

The NP20 and NP19 post code areas include much of the city centre, including Stow Hill, Bettws, Pillgwenlly, Somerton, Lliswerry and Maindee, as well as others.

Preparing for a power cut:

WPD also confirmed that "surrounding areas" were affected by the power cut.

A statement by Western Power on social media read: "We are aware that properties are without power in the Newport NP19 & NP20 and surrounding areas.

"We aim to restore all supplies by 14:00. Apologies to all affected by the power cut."
