PUNE: Thunderstorm and hail occurred at isolated places in Maharashtra till Tuesday morning, while areas such as Pashan and Baner in the city and Pimpri Chinchwad received light rain, accompanied with moderately strong winds, in the evening.
A few India Meteorological Department (IMD) locations, including Pune city, in Maharashtra recorded Cumulus clouds development in the afternoon and evening.
The IMD’s forecast for thunderstorm remains till Thursday and Friday for parts of Maharashtra. An IMD bulletin on Tuesday stated that due to the presence of upper air cyclonic circulation over Gujarat, associated with wind confluence and a trough in easterlies that runs from Southeast Arabian Sea off Kerala coast to Konkan coast in the lower tropospheric levels, isolated light or moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds were very likely to continue over Maharashtra, Gujarat Region, east Rajasthan and southwest Madhya Pradesh till Friday. Isolated hailstorm over north Madhya Maharashtra has also been forecast and adjoining Marathawada on Wednesday.
Anupam Kashyapi, head of the weather forecasting division, told TOI that very light to light rain chances for Pune city were extended till Friday, along with thundery activity and moderately strong winds. “The development of cumulonimbus clouds in the interim could, however, change the situation,” he said.
