Parts of Kilmarnock and Ayr in darkness after being hit by a power cut

Parts of Kilmarnock and Ayr have been hit by a power cut this evening.

A number of postcodes across the two towns have been affected, SP Energy Networks has confirmed tonight.

Residents reported losing power shortly before 9pm and officials say it could take hours before it's restored.

Postcodes affected include: KA1, KA11AA, KA12RA, KA12RJ, KA12RU, KA12RW, KA12RX, KA12RZ, KA12SA, KA12SD, KA12SE, KA12SF, KA12SG, KA2, KA20AA, KA20AH, KA20BU, KA20BX, KA20WW

A statement on SP Energy Network's website says: "There is a power cut affecting the KA1 and KA2 postcode areas of Kilmarnock and Ayr.

"We had no advance warning of this and only became aware of it at 8.58pm.

"Our control centre will attempt to reset the network remotely to restore power in stages, and we will also send our next available engineer to attend site.

"Our team will work to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 11pm.

"Once they arrive, or when we receive any update regarding the cause, we will be able to provide you with more information.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
