Hotel rooms at a Derby conferencing venue are to undergo a six-figure revamp thanks to a partnership with a fast-growing hotel chain.
The Derby Conference Centre, in London Road, has teamed up with OYO Hotels and Homes UK, which will result in a £135,000 investment in the venue’s accommodation.
The partnership will see the conference centre’s on-site Portland House Hotel become an OYO Hotel.
The Derby Conference Centre is housed within a Grade II-listed building, which originally opened in 1938 as the London Midland and Scottish College of Rail and Technology.
In 2007, the building was relaunched as The Derby Conference Centre and today hosts conferences, private functions, exhibitions and corporate and public events.
OYO is India’s largest and fastest-growing hotel chain, which last year announced plans to shake up Britain’s budget accommodation market with a franchising and marketing strategy. It is aiming to sign up 300 independent hotels before 2020.
Matthew Hutchings, managing director at The Derby Conference Centre, said: “I am so excited to announce the OYO Hotel for The Derby Conference Centre.
“I think it’s a step in the right direction for our rebrand as it’ll be something completely different to what we have now – we can’t wait to see and share the outcome.”
The revamped hotel will be just one of a number of improvements planned for the conference centre this year.
There are also plans in place for a new restaurant, meeting rooms, decor and furniture.
