Partnership Set up to Develop Equestrianism in AlUla

The Royal Commission for AlUla signed on Wednesday a memorandum of cooperation with the Saudi Equestrian Federation to develop equestrianism in AlUla.

The three-year agreement was signed by Federation President Prince Abdullah bin Fahd bin Abdullah and CEO of the Royal Commission for AlUla Amr AlMadani.

According to the deal, both parties agree to develop promising economic equestrianism opportunities in AlUla in line with the Royal Commission’s vision for the province. It includes several training programs related to equestrianism, equestrians, trainers, competition judges and others. It also calls for developing the infrastructure of the equestrian sector, including developing an equestrian village and race track.

The agreement will also focus on attracting, sponsoring and organizing local and international equestrian events.

These efforts will boost contribute to sustaining AlUla’s economy through creating promising opportunities for the local community. The agreement also ties into the Royal Commission’s commitment to developing sports throughout the province and promoting tourist events.

Prince Abdullah said that equestrianism is witnessing huge development in wake of the support shown by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the efforts of the Saudi Equestrian Federation.

Moreover, he stressed that the Federation and the Royal Commission have achieved great success in organizing equestrian events in AlUla over the past three years. They include the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Endurance Cup, which boasts the highest reward money for an endurance race in the world at more than 15 million riyals.

AlMadani stressed that Wednesday’s agreement is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s vision in his capacity as chairman of the board of the Royal Commission for AlUla. He also cited the efforts of Royal Commission Governor Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan.

AlUla enjoys a long history, extending thousands of years, with horses. Stone carvings of horses were discovered at the Akma and Al-Aqra mountains. The entire Arabian Peninsula has a close relationship between man and horses, with stone carvings that can be found throughout the region.
