Partners of inmates have found a loophole allowing them to send explicit pics to prison

Wives of prisoners are impersonating lawyers to allow them to send sexually explicit material to their partners. Strict rules on prison mail prevents inmates from receiving this type of content, but the partners of the prisoners have found a loophole which involves marking envelopes as legal correspondence.

The Mirror reports that they have begun ordering 'Rule 39' stamps from Amazon, which are similar to official ones used by solicitors. Prison authorities cannot open letters with these markings as they contain confidential information.

A source said: “This has put a smile on a lot of men’s faces, but I can’t see it lasting long. There’s bound to be a clampdown.”

The instructions of how to buy the £9.95 stamp and the right kind of envelope have been shared in a Facebook group. Members point out that each individual prison has a different set of rules, with some removing even the most remotely sexual photographs, while others take a more relaxed approach.

One woman wrote: “I’ve sent all sorts and he’s got every single pic. 50 photos every month.”

A Prison Service spokesman said: “Sending fake legal letters is a criminal offence and we refer any evidence of this to the police.”
