Brit jogger's boyfriend identified her by her trainers after 'she was crushed by rock'

A British jogger who was found dead in a ravine on a Greek island had to be identified by her trainers.

Tragic Dr Natalie Christopher, 34, plunged 65ft off a cliff edge in stunning Ikaria while out running.

The 'inspirational' astrophysicist was then crushed by a massive boulder that had become dislodged, according to reports.

Tragically, her devastated partner, known only as Kyriakos, had to identify Natalie by the footwear she had on.

A coroner said she died instantly in the the tragic accident.

Dr Christopher, from London but who was living in Cyprus, had been reported missing by her partner after she failed to return from a run on Monday morning

A rescue worker previously told the Mail Online that a distraught Kyriakos had to be held back and tried to get past police to be with her.

Authorities launched a search operation on Monday afternoon involving police, the fire brigade and a helicopter.

"The body of the 35-year-old British national was found by search teams at a ravine about 20 metres deep," Greek police said, confirming earlier reports by Greek state TV ERT.

A person who participated in the rescue operation, Vaggelis Kriaras, told Greece's Open TV that she may have fallen in her attempt to climb, or descend, a cliff-face.

"Unfortunately it appears she caught onto a rock which came away and crushed her," he said, citing accounts from others in the rescue operation.

Her disappearance had prompted a massive campaign on social media with friends pleading for information on her whereabouts.

She was well-known for her peace activism in ethnically-split Cyprus and was also a campaigner for more women in under represented scientific fields.

Dr Christopher was a keen sports enthusiast, running summer camps to get more girls into sports.
