Parties urge Tamil Nadu CM to not grant permission to RSS march on Nov 6

CHENNAI: Accusing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of being a fascist and terrorist organisation that killed Mahatma Gandhi, several political parties, including the DMK allies, on Tuesday appealed to the MK Stalin-led government to not allow the organisation to hold its proposed march in the state on November 6.

"We will face it legally and politically," VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan told reporters in Chennai.

On Tuesday, Dravidar Kazhagam and the DMK allies, Congress, MDMK, CPM, CPI, VCK, IUML, MMK and TVK, organised a human chain for "social harmony" across the state. Seeman's NTK and over 50 organizations extended support to the human chain event. On Anna Salai, the leaders raised slogans against RSS and BJP, and warned that attempts to saffronise the "land of Periyar, Marx, Ambedkar and Kamaraj" would never materialise.

Thirumavalavan alleged that the right-wing organisation had created a long-standing feud between Hindus and Muslims through its past actions. It had no space in the land of Tamil Nadu, which had been nurtured by the Dravidian, Marxist and Ambedkarite movements. “There is no room for casteism and communalism in this land. We will defeat the conspiracies of RSS, oppressing people in the name of caste and religion. This agitation is just a rehearsal, a preliminary,” he said, warning the Sanatana forces to not dream of dividing the people in the name of caste. MDMK chief Vaiko said the parties would not allow Sanatana forces to set its foot on Tamil Nadu.

CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said the assembly of the members of over 50 organisations within a week reflected the hatred against the BJP-RSS combine. CPI state secretary R Mutharasan said the coming together of secular and democratic forces was a warning to the Sanatana forces. “The DMK-led alliance is strong and complete. RSS should not be allowed, since it’s an organisation that destroys the unity, and does not have faith in democracy,” he said, calling upon the government to not allow RSS to hold training in government and public schools.
