Parties intensify campaign for MLC polls in Andhra Pradesh

TIRUPATI: Various political parties — including the ruling YSR Congress party, the Telugu Desam, Bharatiya Janata Party and the communist parties — have intensified their respective campaigns with regards to the MLC elections scheduled in Andhra Pradesh later this month.

With the MLC elections being held in the state this year ahead of the general elections scheduled in 2024, the MLC polls present a do-or-die situation especially for the ruling YSR Congress party, which is contesting both the graduates and teachers constituencies covering the Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor districts.

While the TDP has backed the candidate fielded by the APTF teachers group, it had fielded its own candidate Kacharla Srikanth from the graduates constituency.

Though the Jana Sena seems to have backed out of the MLC polls and seems to be focusing attention on the next general elections in the state, its alliance partner BJP has fielded Sannareddy Dayakar Reddy in the MLC elections.

The MLC elections are going to be a multi-party contest this time in Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor districts.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam party MLA Dr Nimmala Rama Naidu took part in the party's MLC elections campaign in Tirupati on Friday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the TDP's campaign, Dr Nimmala Rama Naidu felt that the ruling YSR Congress party was staring at an imminent defeat as the graduates' and the teachers' fraternity is fed up with the fake promises of chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and are now waiting for an opportunity to teach a befitting lesson to the ruling disposition.

The TDP MLA alleged that the ruling party, which realized that the tide is turning against it, is trying to win the elections with the help of bogus votes and appealed to the election authorities to intervene and set things right.

The BJP representatives, led by former TTD trust board member G Bhanu Prakash Reddy, campaigned in support of MLC nominee Sannareddy Dayakar Reddy at various localities in the temple city.

Communist parties and their affiliated trademarks union representatives intensified their campaign in support of PDF nominee M Venkateswar Reddy in Tirupati.
