Monthly child support, six-month paid maternity leave, and a safe space for women are among policies which various parties have unveiled which aimed to empower women and foster women's participation in society.
The Democrat Party's former MP Rachada Dhnadirek said her party focuses on providing 100,000 baht in annual child support which will come down to monthly payments of 1,000 baht to mothers, to help cover expenses needed in raising newborn babies until they reach eight years old.
Six-month paid maternity leave is also another focus of the Democrat Party. The party also looks to create a safe society for women and girls in the southern provinces, and elevate women's potential and the capability of civil society.
Another party proposing a child support scheme and paid maternity leave is the Future Forward Party, with spokeswoman Pannika Wanich saying the party, which emphasises equality, will offer a comprehensive welfare policy providing six-month maternity leave and 1,200 baht monthly child support up to 6 years.
Palang Pracharath's new face Thanikan Pornpongsaroj said her party aims to ensure gender equality and provide safe spaces for women, including accommodation and transport provided especially for women, and adequate lighting in public places.
Pheu Thai's former MP Leelavadee Vajropala said her party has four main policies concerning women including repealing outdated laws that hold back women from unlocking their true potential, and supporting women empowerment funds such as low-interest loans.
The Commoners' Party's co-founder Chumaporn Tangkliang said her party, apart from supporting paid maternity and paternity leave, will push for the establishment of a set ratio for women in politics.
Thai Raksa Chart's Sriyada Palimapan said her party will combat violence against women as a national agenda item and will push for equal pay between men and women. She also said her party encourages women to enter politics.
The policies were proposed at Women Organisations Meet Political Parties event at Ratchathewi district on Thursday.
