Partick Thistle pain can spur Airdrie on to seal promotion play-off spot, says Ian Murray

Ian Murray insists the pain of defeat at Partick can galvanise his Diamonds and push them on to seal a play-off spot.

The Airdrie gaffer watched his side fall to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Firhill on Saturday, which looks to have killed off their title hopes.

They trail the Jags by seven points with only nine to play for and face Montrose tomorrow night looking to ensure they are not the odd club out in the top half of the table for the platy-offs.

The Gable Endies are just two points behind their rivals with a game in hand, so Airdie can't afford another slip up.

Airdrie players will be up for the fight, says Murray (Airdrie FC)

But Murray isn't throwing the towel in for the title and says his side will be driven on by Saturday's agonising clash, which saw Airdrie denied an equaliser right at the death when Calum Gallagher hit the post.

He said: "We win on Tuesday night we are suddenly back in it, depending on what happens elsewhere, and it would certainly be a huge three points in terms of the play-off chances as well.

"The players will be fine and we'll pick them up.

"These things spur you on and we go again Tuesday night and we do our best.

"The end goal is obviously the bounty of being in the league above.

"We have to keep going as long as we can and we understand that three points in any game at this stage of the season is so significant, so huge, when you get it from the team that is chasing you it is massive."

Airdrie welcome Montrose to New Broomfield tomorrow, kick-off 7pm.
