Partick Thistle lift League One trophy as Ian McCall's side stick to SPFL and SFA ban

Partick Thistle finally got their hands on the League One trophy as they lifted it in front of an empty Firhill on Wednesday morning.

The Maryhill outfit stuck to their word and no member of the SFA or SPFL were involved in the presentation as they returned to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Partick Thistle feel they were unfairly punished by the decision to call the leagues last March as the Coronavirus pandemic began and ended the Scottish campaign.

Thistle had been sitting bottom of the Championship but had a game in hand over Queen of the South and felt it was unfair they were relegated.

And after a disappointing start to the season in League One, they romped home when football returned in March and sealed the title with a 5-0 win over Falkirk last week.

They played their final match of the campaign on Tuesday night when they were beaten 3-2 by Montrose but with the title already in the bag, it wasn't a big worry.

Ian McCall had made it clear on BBC Sportsound earlier this week that nobody from the SPFL or SFA would be welcome at the stadium to present the trophy.

And the club stuck to their word as the players and staff celebrated, with a small number of fans gathered outside the stadium.

McCall had said: "The club and me were in complete agreement.

“Nobody from the SPFL or SFA will be allowed in the stadium. They're not allowed in the stadium, simple as that."
