Partick Thistle confirm Rangers EGM backing as they warn Scottish football may 'never recover' from crisis

Partick Thistle has said it will back Rangers ' stance and vote for an independent investigation into the SPFL while warning that unless a probe comes to pass, Scottish football may "never fully recover".

The Jags were relegated from the Championship despite being just two points adrift at the bottom - and with a game in hand over Queen of the South - due to the average points calculation used to bring the season to a close.

They released a scathing statement at the weekend claiming the club had been "forgotten, ignored and patronised".

And now Thistle have confirmed their intentions for tomorrow's vote and claimed that a failure to shine a light on the league's processes would leave the game "fatally wounded".

A club statement from Chief Executive Gerry Britton, said: “At a critically important time for Scottish football, the club wants to share with you its voting intention ahead of the SPFL EGM tomorrow and briefly explain the reasoning behind our decision.

“The vote for an independent investigation isn’t a case of picking sides. Nor is it a failure to admit that an investigation is needed. It is a way for Scottish football to find a way out of the situation it has found itself in since 8th April.

"Unless something is done urgently to deal with the obvious breakdown in trust between parties, football in this country may never fully recover.

“That’s why we will vote “yes” to an independent investigation. To do nothing risks leaving our game fatally wounded.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this decision was taken last week before events unfolded around reconstruction.”

The motion requires 75 per cent of clubs to back it for an investigation to take place, a tall order for those who want to see it come to pass.
