Luiz, Partey, Martinelli: Latest Arsenal injury news and return dates ahead of Burnley tussle

Arsenal will be hoping to arrest a run of four Premier League matches without a victory when they welcome Burnley to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Gunners, who completed their UEFA Europa League group stage campaign with an entertaining 4-2 win over Irish outfit Dundalk on Thursday evening, have struggled for form domestically of late, with last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby cranking up the pressure on Mikel Arteta's shoulders.

The defeat to Spurs means that the Gunners, who will discover their opponents for the last-32 of the Europa League on Monday, have won just one of their last seven Premier League outings, a run that has seen them find the back of the net just twice.

With that in mind, as well as taking their lowly league position into account, Arsenal are in desperate need of a three-point haul against fellow strugglers Burnley, who will arrive in the capital just three places below Arteta's troops in the table.

Arsenal vs Burnley - Match Preview

And ahead of the clash with Burnley, Arteta is still having to deal with a few injury niggles and troubles. Here is a round-up of all the very latest on the Arsenal injury front and those all important expected return dates.

Thomas Partey

After being sidelined since the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa with a thigh injury, summer signing Partey made his return to action against Spurs last weekend, as he was handed a place in the starting line-up.

However, Arsenal supporters' delights at seeing him return were cut short, as he limped off just before half time.

It is unclear what the exact nature of the injury is but Partey has confirmed that he hopes to be back in action as soon as possible in an attempt to start helping the team climb the table.

"Being part of the Arsenal family is something incredible for me," Partey wrote on Instagram on Wednesday evening. "Since the day I arrived, I have felt so supported.

"The coach had a great influence in my decision to join this team and even though we had some bad results, I know we are building something good together.

"I have had the bad luck to suffer an injury but I hope I can play again soon and fight for this team."

It remains unclear when he could make a return.

David Luiz

Having missed the clashes with Rapid Wien, Tottenham and Dundalk, Arteta will be hoping to welcome Brazilian centre-back Luiz back into the frame against Burnley.

The former Chelsea man has not featured since being forced off at half time during the Gunners' 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of last month, following a serious clash of heads with Mexico international Raul Jimenez.

Having been forced to sit-out the last three games, Arteta, speaking after the win over Dundalk in midweek, believes there is a chance he could return against the Clarets.

"David, we will have to asses him today [Friday] and tomorrow [Saturday] to see how he is feeling and whether he will be able to compete or not," Arteta said.

Gabriel Martinelli

The talented 19-year-old has been on the club's injury list since June after suffering a serious knee injury during a training session.

However, he returned to action in the Arsenal Under-21s' clash against AFC Wimbledon in the Papa John's Trophy this week, sending a classy message to Gunners fans after his 45-minute run out.

"It was a great feeling to get minutes tonight," Martinelli wrote on Twitter. "Huge thanks to the medical and physio teams @Arsenal for their fantastic work and to the fans for the amazing support during my long recovery."

As expected, Martinelli was not called back into action for the first team clash against Dundalk just two days after his return from injury and it is unlikely that he will feature against Burnley.

Mohamed Elneny, Joe Willock, Emile Smith Rowe, and Eddie Nketiah were all substituted against Dundalk, but those were for tactical reasons, meaning no injury issues are expected to rule them out of the clash with Burnley.

Elsewhere, Reiss Nelson and Sead Kolasinac who both missed the win in Ireland, as reported by football.london, could return following a clash of heads in training in the build-up to the win over Dundalk.
