Partap Singh Bajwa ridicules hunt for Goldy Brar's aides

CHANDIGARH: Punjab’s leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa of the Congress on Thursday ridiculed the statewide manhunt for the associates of Canada-based wanted gangster and Sidhu Moose Wala murder prime suspect Goldy Brar as a "publicity stunt".

Muktsar native Brar had arrived in Canada on a student visa in 2017 and now the history-sheeter is on counter-terrorism force National Investigating Agency’s list of most-wanted foreign-based gangsters. Bajwa asked chief minister Bhagwant Mann to clarify the actions his government had taken, so far, to make Canada extradite Brar. He recalled Mann’s false claim from Aam Aadmi Party’s Ahmedabad campaign last year that the US had detained Brar for the Punjab cops to take him to India.

Doubting the state government's intent, the LoP said that when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had toured India in 2018, former CM Captain Amarinder Singh had handed him a list of most wanted Canada residents, but in contrast, Mann had made no similar effort during Trudeau's latest visit to Delhi for the G20 summit.

Bajwa advised Mann to be proactive before the situation worsens.
