Part of Rochdale town centre sealed off after young woman hit by Audi

Part of Rochdale town centre has been taped off after a woman was hit by a car this afternoon.

The woman, believed to be in her late teens or early twenties, was struck by a navy blue Audi at the junction of St Mary's Gate and Yorkshire Street in Rochdale on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called just before 2:25pm after the collision between the woman and the Audi.

Yorkshire Street remains closed in both directions while police deal with the incident and aftermath.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman told the Manchester Evening News earlier the woman was being treated by paramedics and that it was too early to give any indication of her condition.

He also said enquiries into what had happened were underway and were ongoing.

Locals said the air ambulance could being seen flying overhead nearby.

The road remains closed both ways from the town head junction and Elliot Street towards Halifax Road.

Buses are being diverted and local councillors and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have urged people to stay away from the area for the time being.

TfGM said: "Due to a Police incident St Mary's Gate and Yorkshire St in Rochdale are closed. Please find an alternative route."
