Part of Nottinghamshire has one of the lowest coronavirus rates in the Midlands

A small area of Nottinghamshire now has one of the lowest coronavirus rates in the Midlands, official data shows.

Public Health England statistics show Retford North has had just three coronavirus cases confirmed in the seven days to January 8 and a rate of 47.1 cases per 100,000 people.

The area, known as Hallcroft, has seen a week-on-week decline of 10 cases (-76.9%). It is the only area of the county and one of few areas in the Midlands with between zero and nine confirmed cases.

But neighbouring Retford South has a rate of 245 per 100,000, while Retford East's rate stands at 309.5.

One area with a slightly lower rate than Retford North is Louth, in Lincolnshire, with a rate of 42.3 and three cases confirmed in a week.

Other areas with extremely low Covid rates in the East Midlands are Bakewell North, Baslow & Calver in Derbyshire, Skegness Town and Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire.

It comes as other areas of Nottinghamshire have reported soaring Covid rates, with the rate in Sutton Central and Leamington hitting 1,068.2 cases per 100,000 people.

The data shows six areas in Nottinghamshire now have an infection rate above 800 cases per 100,000 people, which is the highest category.
