Part of Nottingham triathlon cancelled as heavy rainfall continues

Torrential rain has led to the cancellation of part of a popular triathlon event in Nottingham.

The Outlaw Nottingham race taking place today (Sunday, July 28) has clashed with a weather warning for heavy rainfall forecase across Nottinghamshire until midnight.

Organisers tweeted that they had "never seen such poor conditions."

They added: "Massive thanks to all the volunteers, who are running around like crazy to ensure that athletes are safe, warm and able to compete."

Whilst the swimming and running parts of the triathlon are still taking place, organisers confirmed that the cycling section of the event was cancelled.

They added: "Outlaw is a swim-run today, bike section dangerous due to ongoing poor weather.

"The roads are not safe given the storms affecting the area of the country.

"Safety of athletes is of paramount importance."
