Part of Nottingham shop roof falls on to busy city street

Part of the roof on a Nottingham shop has fallen on to a busy Nottingham city centre street. The "fairly big" chunk collapsed off Blue Banana in Exchange Walk at around 2pm on Saturday, May 21.

Images show parts of the roofing broken up on the ground, with staff putting a cordon in place. Tammy Rosee, a sales assistant at the shop, said they had taped off the area as a "precaution".

Recalling the event, she told Nottinghamshire Live: "Everybody was going about their day and when a piece of the wall fell from the top. It was a part of wall and roof. It was fairly big. There was a lot of people coming down the street but nobody was hurt.

"There was nobody walking in the area when it fell." She added that it likely would not have hurt anyone. "Our manager is on the phone to several people to see what we can do about it."

Ms Rosee said that the store would remain open, adding: "It doesn't look like anything else is going to happen. Customers can come in as usual."
