Part of Mansfield Road near city centre will be closed to put up 500-tonne tower crane

Part of Mansfield Road will be closed this weekend to allow a 500-tonne tower crane to be installed.

The road heading towards Nottingham city centre will be closed between Woodborough Road and Union Road from 5am on Saturday, March 7, until 5am on Monday, March 9.

The outbound side of Mansfield Road will not be affected by the closure and access to Victoria Centre car park will be maintained, though motorists are advised to plan ahead.

The closure is needed while a 500-tonne crane is set up at York House where development work is planned. The crane installation is being carried out by North Midland Construction.

Nottingham City Council issued a roadworks bulletin about the closure and said it expected 'moderate to severe delays'.

It said the work was scheduled to take place 'around the clock to get the job done'.

The closure will also affect some bus routes, including Nottingham City Transport Brown, Sky Blue, Lime, Yellow and Purple lines.

These services will divert via York Street and Union Road. No stops will be missed but there is potential for delays.

An alternative route has been put in place for road users starting from Woodborough Road and turning onto Huntingdon Street continuing along until it becomes Lower Parliament Street.

From Lower Parliament Street there will be a right turn on to Bellar Gate, in the Lace Market area, which becomes Belward Street, then Cranbook Street.

The diversion continues on to Glasshouse Street and then rejoins to Huntingdon Street.
