Part of a dam which collapsed leading to 1,500 people being evacuated from a town amid fears it would be flooded is to be replaced - possibly taking out a section of a nearby war memorial.
A part of the dam at Whaley Bridge collapsed in August leading to fears water could spill from Toddbrook Reservoir into the town below.
RAF helicopters were brought in to drop tonnes of aggregate onto the site in a bid to stop the flooding.
Police went door to door as water poured through the gap, urging 6,500 people to leave Whaley Bridge after days of heavy rainfall.
Now the slipway next to the collapsed section is to be decommissioned and replaced, reports the BBC, with a grassy slope installed at one of two locations.
There are two alternative plans for the site and a consultation process has now begun - with either a car park or a war memorial park being built on.
One plan could see a new spillway built through Whaley Bridge Sailing Club car park.
The other option would put a slipway through the town's war memorial park.
The trust has written to those living nearby saying would "treat this area with due sensitivity and importance".
Both overflows would carry any excess water from the reservoir to the River Goyt.
The £10million scheme will start next year and take two years to complete.
Pumps will stay in place until the work is done, so that any excess water in the reservoir can be safely removed.
