Part of Constitution Street in Leith has been closed to traffic as part of tram works

Part of a busy Leith street has been closed off as part of the ongoing tram extension works.

Constitution Street will be shut to northbound traffic between the Foot of the Walk and Queen Charlotte Street from 9.30am today (Tuesday).

This is to allow ground investigation works to be carried out ahead of the tram line being extended.

The route is expected to be closed until 5pm on Monday.

Edinburgh Live reported earlier this month that works to prepare the roads for the new tram line to Newhaven were getting underway.

Contractors SFN will need to inspect 100m stretches of road at a time, in 25 different locations. This is expected to be finished by the middle of July.

The council said that residents and businesses in affected areas would be contacted before work got underway.
