Part of road collapses sparking closure of historic Nottingham street

A historic street in Nottingham city centre has been closed after part of the carriageway collapsed.

High Pavement, which runs from the east end of the St Mary the Virgin Church to Weekday Cross, was closed early this morning (Monday, June 22) for emergency works.

Nottingham City Council said the closure was due to a "carriageway collapse", and a large hole has been cordoned off.

Workmen are now in the process of resurfacing the road and making it safe again.

Minor delays are expected as the road is currently closed to traffic, but pedestrians can pass.

High Pavement is one of the earliest streets in the city, home to the National Justice Museum and a number of listed buildings.

The completion date of the reconstruction of the collapsed road surface is currently unknown.
