Part-African wildcat hybrid is on the loose

A hybrid between a wild cat and a domestic breed has escaped and is on the loose in Bristol.

The Savannah Cat is 4ft long and weighs 25lbs and usually stays inside a house in a special enclosure.

The pet lives with Laura Page and her family in the Sea Mills area of Bristol, reports BristolLive .

Savannah cats are a cross between the African serval wild cat and a domestic cat.

Laura said that he is not a danger, and is scared of humans, but should not be approached as he will run off.

She urged that sightings of him should be texted to her.

The cat has a blue collar on with her mobile phone and email on, and he is chipped, but to an address in the USA.

“He is a Savannah cat, he’s part wild and will be afraid of people and loud noises,” she said.

“Please don’t approach him or try to catch or coax him in - he’s fast. He has a loud pitched meow, which is very distinctive,” she added.

Bristol’s cat and dog owner community is rallying around the family, and Laura has been lent a trap.

“He will run if people approach him, so I just want anyone who sees him to contact me, and not try to get him,” she added.

If anyone sees this distinctive cat, they should text Laura on 07983 852889.
