Parrot steals TV reporter's airpod while doing a broadcast about robberies

A hilarious news blooper shows the moment a TV reporter is robbed, live on air in the middle of a report on crime - by a parrot.

Journalist Nicolas Krumm was in the middle of a live broadcast about a burglary when the pilfering parrot landed on his shoulder, before stealing his earpiece and flying away with it.

At first, the Chilean newsman seems delighted at his new friend, gesturing for his cameraman to focus on the bird perched on his shoulder.

But then, to the amazement of the Chilevision reporter, the cheeky bird plucks his earpiece from his left ear before trying to make a getaway.

The stunned broadcaster tried to grab it back, in footage aired on the Chilevision channel, but the cheeky parrot was far too swift and disappeared with its new prize.

Disbelieving Mr Krumm informed viewers at home, “It’s just taken my earpiece”.

During a later chat with a studio presenter about the bizarre incident, he explained: "We were doing a midday broadcast and halfway through I felt a presence close to me and realized it was a parrot.

"I tried to alert the cameraman more than anything because it was picturesque and I thought it wasn't something that happens every day."

He said people spend years training parrots to get them to rest on their shoulders.

He continued: "The parrot had been watching us from railings nearby and I think my earpiece had got its attention because you can see it looking at it out of the corner of its eye before it takes it.

"I had to carry on talking because we were in the middle of a live broadcast.

"Right at the moment when I'm trying to make sure the cameraman has seen the parrot, it takes my earpiece.

"It wasn't something I wanted to comment on right at that second because we were dealing with a sensitive subject which was a residential break-in and I considered the most prudent thing was to carry on with the broadcast."

Fortunately, all was not lost though, as Nicolas reassured viewers that his cameraman had managed to retrieve the stolen earbud during a search.

The parrot had apparently dropped it in a nearby patch of grass, meaning Nicolas was reunited with his gadget, the culprit, however, remains at large.
