A 55-year-old parolee from New York City, Chad Irish, was arrested on Monday for the concealment of a human corpse. The New York Police Department confirmed that Irish was charged in connection with the death of 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams. Williams' body was discovered in a sleeping bag on a dolly surrounded by black garbage bags on E. 27th Street, with a fatal gunshot wound to the head as determined by the New York City Medical Examiner's Office.
Surveillance footage showed a man in a motorized wheelchair dragging the victim's body to the location, although it has not been confirmed if this individual was Irish. Friends of Williams indicated that she was acquainted with a wheelchair user in the neighborhood.
Irish, who has a history of criminal offenses including robbery, attempted arson, and assault, was on parole for a previous robbery in the Bronx at the time of his arrest. Despite the violent reaction from a crowd upon his arrest, Irish was taken to a hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Williams' family expressed their belief that she knew her killer, and described her as a promising young woman who was about to start a job at the Department of Housing Preservation. Her mother and siblings shared heartfelt memories of her ambition and caring nature.
The investigation into Williams' death is ongoing, and Irish has not been charged with her killing at this time. The community remains shocked by the tragic events surrounding the discovery of Williams' body and the subsequent arrest of Irish.
