Parole authority adjourns review of Orkopoulos case to May

Milton Orkopoulos in 2008.

Ex-Labor Swansea MP, former Lake Macquarie councillor and convicted paedophile Milton Orkopoulos has had a review of his revoked parole adjourned until his outstanding court matters are ruled upon.

The State Parole Authority said in a statement on Thursday Orkopoulos would remain in custody in the meantime.

The parole revocation review hearing has been adjourned to May 14.

"As requested by Orkopoulos and his advocate, the matter was dealt with in court today in their absence," the statement said.

The 62-year-old was released from jail at the end of 2019 after more than 11 years in prison.

He was convicted in 2008 of 30 charges, including multiple counts of having sex with a male between 10 and 18, indecent assault, supplying prohibited drugs and possessing child pornography between 1995 and 2006.

Orkopoulos spent four years on Lake Macquarie City Council and served in NSW Parliament between 1999 and 2006, including time as a minister.

He was returned to custody after he was twice arrested and charged earlier this year for allegedly breaking conditions of his parole.

Those matters remain before the court - he will face Waverley Local Court on April 15.
