'Parody' Nadine Dorries mocked for Boris Johnson support

Liverpool-born Tory MP Nadine Dorries has been mocked for throwing her support behind under-fire Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Mr Johnson faced an onslaught at Prime Minister's Questions today as he was grilled from all angles about a lockdown-breaking party held in the Downing Street garden in May 2020.

There were repeated calls for him to resign after he admitted he had attended the gathering, which he spuriously claimed to believe was a 'work event', before saying an ongoing investigation into the events should be allowed to run its course.

That's despite an email being sent by his private secretary which urged staffers to bring their own booze to the event.

The revelations of more lockdown breaches in Parliament have caused outrage around a country that was sacrificing so much at the time - with people unable to be with dying loved ones because of the rules.

Several Tory MPs have expressed their own anger about the situation - and today Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross became the first to call for the Prime Minister to resign.

But others have decided to back the beleaguered leader - including Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries.

Ms Dorries, Member of Parliament for Mid Bedfordshire, who was born in Liverpool - took to twitter to claim that Mr Johnson had taken 'full responsibility' for his actions.

She wrote: "PM was right to personally apologise earlier.

"People are hurt and angry at what happened and he has taken full responsibility for that. The inquiry should now be allowed to its work and establish the full facts of what happened."

Her comments have been widely mocked on social media.

One user claimed: "This is a parody account," while another said "Christ, you're terrible at this."

Andy Heustice retweeted the Culture Secretary and said: "It's a skill to be wrong so often."

Many others questioned the claim that Mr Johnson had 'taken full responsibility' for his actions.

Comic writer James Felton replied to say: "Full responsibility is where you don’t pretend you stumbled across a BYOB party in your garden at 6pm and thought it was a business meeting."
