Parliament rejects petition to allow Love Island's Ovie win the show - and the £50k - by himself

The passion of Love Island fans cannot be disputed - you only need to look on Twitter every day during the eight-week run to see that.

Some fans really wanted to make an impression by asking for some government help.

Yes, really.

The ITV2 reality shows loyal fan base set up a petition calling for villa fave Ovi Soko to be the first Islander to get to the final without being coupled up - and walk away with the £50,000 prize money.

The call to Parliament, which was launched on July 11, was named 'Allow Ovie be the first single on love island to win the 50k'.

The description simply read: "Let's let ovie aka king O win on a couple or single."

Somewhat unsurprisingly, the bid to see the professional basketball player crowned champ was rejected.

Government workers responsible for deciding which petitions go through to the next stage to be debated in the House Of Comments declined to let it move forward.

"This petition was rejected," the website reads.

Giving reasons for the decline, a comment on the page reads: "It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not responsible for.

"We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards."

Ovie became an instant hit with viewers as a latecomer to the plush Majorca villa.

So far, he has been unlucky in love but has gained plenty of adorning followers.

But the 28-year-old Londoner is currently coupled up on a friendship basis with Amber Gill but all that could be about to change thanks to new addition India Reynolds.

The model, also 28, entered the villa earlier this week and has caught the attention of Ovie and Chris Taylor.

As a recoupling looms, it looks as though Ovie may have found his first romantic coupling of the series.

Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2.
