Parliament House closed to public after Greens staffer tests positive

Parliament House has been closed to the public after a staff member of Greens leader Adam Bandt tested positive for coronavirus.

Parliament will be shut to the public until further notice.

A statement from the Department of Parliamentary Services said, "ACT Health [is] working to identify possible close contacts and exposure locations at Parliament House and elsewhere in the ACT between November 30 and December 2."

The Greens issued a statement saying it was a staff member of the party leader.

"A fully vaccinated staff member on Adam Bandt's team, who was in Canberra during the last sitting week, has today [Saturday] tested positive to COVID," the Greens said in a statement.

"They are currently working with ACT Health to determine if they were infectious while in Canberra.

"Other members of the team have been tested and returned negative results.

"Mr Bandt has been tested and is isolating until he receives a result. He is fully vaccinated and not symptomatic."

The Department of Parliamentary Services said Parliament House would be closed to the public until further notice.

"Given the advice about a COVID case at Parliament House during the past week, the Presiding Officers, in consultation with the Commonwealth Deputy Chief Medical Officer, have decided that Parliament House should close to the public until further notice," they said.

"DPS will notify building occupants of any action deemed necessary by ACT Health and exposure locations will be updated during tomorrow [Sunday]."
