Parl panel summons Maharashtra DGP, CS, Mumbai CP in Rana arrest case

NEW DELHI: The Parliament's Privileges and Ethics Committee has summoned the chief secretary, DGP of Maharashtra, Mumbai police commissioner and superintendent of women district prison, Byculla (Mumbai) to appear before them on June 15 for oral evidence, in the Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana's arrest issue.

The committee has also summoned senior officers of Telangana in connection with the arrest and jail of another Lok Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Bandi, who is also BJP state president.

On April 25, independent Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana had lodged a complaint with Speaker Om Birla for a serious breach of privilege alleging patently illegal arrest and the consequent inhuman treatment meted out to her in Khar Police Station.

The committee has asked Manu Kumar Srivastava (chief secretary, Maharashtra), Rajnish Seth (DGP), Sanjay Pandey (commissioner of police, Mumbai), Yashwant Bhanudas Fad (superintendent, women district prison, Byculla, Mumbai) to be present physically on June 15.

Telangana officers have been asked to be present in connection with the complaint lodged on January 3 by Sanjay Kumar Bandi, against Satyanarayana, commissioner of police and three other police officials for forcefully arresting him and for attempting to produce him before the court for 'remand' with false case filings.

Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana, an MLA, had been arrested by the Mumbai police on April 23 for declaring that they would recite Hanuman Chalisa outside 'Matoshree', Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's residence.
