Parks are reopening across Carmarthenshire after they were shut during lockdown

Parks across Carmarthenshire are beginning to reopen after closing due to the pandemic.

Carmarthenshire Council-managed parks, including Pembrey Country Park, will reopen to the public from Friday.

Parc Howard, Llyn Llech Owain and Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park, all in Llanelli, are also among the list of open spaces that can now be enjoyed again.

All toilet facilities, catering facilities, play areas and sport and leisure facilities will remain closed at all parks.

This also includes the ski and activity centre and the camping and caravan park in Pembrey Country Park.

The county council explained that the situation would be reviewed on a daily basis.

Parc Howard in Llanelli will also be reopening to the public (Carmarthenshire County Council)

Pembrey Country Park will be open from 8am until 6pm daily, with the gates being locked at 6pm.

The number of vehicles will be limited, which may mean a one-in, one-out system at busy times, to ensure social distancing can be maintained.

Factory Road car park, outside the main entrance to Pembrey Country Park, will also be reopening on Friday.

Visitors are being warned that there will be no RNLI lifeguards on Cefn Sidan beach for the season.

The council's executive board member for culture, sport and tourism, Councillor Peter Hughes Griffiths, said: "We’ve been working hard to make sure we can open our parks and open spaces to residents in the county to ensure people locally and of course within the five miles regulations, can have access to somewhere for exercise, but this could only be done when we were confident it was safe not only for residents but for our staff also.

"We’re urging visitors to follow all guidance in the parks, so that a safe and enjoyable environment can be experienced by all. If visitors fail to abide by this then we will have no choice but to consider the closure of the parks to ensure public safety.

"We will be closely monitoring the situation daily and will be updating residents through the council’s website and social media pages."
