Parkruns across UK and the world cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic

Popular parkrun events have been cancelled until further notice due to the coronavirus outbreak.

All of their events in every country have been suspended as the virus continues to spread.

Currently, there are almost 2,000 confirmed cases in the UK and at least 71 deaths caused by the virus.

Many events and large gatherings have already been cancelled and venues such as the Sage in Gateshead and the Theatre Royal have closed down.

Now organisers at parkrun Global have confirmed their plan of action.

A spokesperson said: "Following government advice and public health guidelines, we are suspending events in Eswatini, Namibia, Russia, South Africa, and the UK from this weekend until at least the end of March.

"With this announcement parkrun is now closed in every territory around the world until further notice."
