Parkland student, 13, asks Trump for gun reform. The reply he got stunned him

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ If you email President Donald Trump asking for gun control, the response might surprise you.

That's what happened to 13-year-old Drake Speno. The Parkland student sent Trump an impassioned letter via email, urging the president to "please do something" and "start making gun laws."

Drake, an eighth-grader at Westglades Middle, recalls the fear caused by the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High that left 17 dead. It's the day he watched Stoneman Douglas students hopping a fence to seek shelter at Westglades, and a student's clothes covered in blood.

The White House emailed Drake back, sending what appears to be a canned email response by the president _ one that has Trump vowing to fight for people's right "to keep and bear arms."

The Speno family was confused: Why would the White House reply with the exact opposite of what Drake requested? A White House spokeswoman did not comment Friday.

Drake's mom, Shelby Speno, called the response "off point."

Drake plans to write back, she said. "What the heck?" he asked.
